The ELA standard that I chose is LAFS.2.RI.2.5 which is a 2nd grade standard. This standard outlines that students should be able to utilize several different types of text features to determine important information about the reading. These text features could include headings, icons, images, and electronic menus. I feel slightly prepared to teach on this topic, as I am familiar with several types of text features and feel comfortable teaching about how to navigate these features and use them to learn about the reading. I would be able to find several examples and walk the class through locating and discussing the importance of these text features.

The CPALMS standard that I chose is MA.2.AR.1.1 which is a 2nd grade math standard. This standard requires that students can solve 1 and 2-step addition and subtraction real-world problems. There are several resources for this standard, including a formative assessment where students are required to compare word problems. This involves students solving word problems where some include more words than others. This would be helpful for students to see, as it would help them understand that word problems can look very different but always contain the information that you need. This also allows the students to practice pulling the information out of word problems in different examples. Teachers can offer these problems for students to work on these skills within small group lessons or they could also use these word problems in the context of a test.

Teachers should be proficient in internet searching as they likely need to search for examples, visual aids, and ideas for lesson plans very frequently. I think that using advanced search options would be very helpful as an educator, so you can ensure that key terms are included and unimportant terms are excluded. There are no other internet searching skills that I use that were not included in the course material this week.
